«The Island and the Fountain of Youth» by Laskaris P. Zararis.

An eleven year-old boy who likes building and fixing and his girl pal, ‘steal’ an old fighter plane and fly off to the famous paradise  ‘Island of Hope’ which has two buried secrets; the fountain of youth and crude oil, precious but useless for the natives. They were discovered centuries ago by the scariest pirate who ever roamed the seven seas, Bicepa on his ship Hannibal. He returns with great expectations to the island and with the tribal council having given its approval, Bicepa starts to extract the ‘black gold’. Temp Title: «The Island and the Fountain of Youth»

142 pages, published in 2012, it has won several Greek and Cypriot literary awards. An imaginative adventure story which also raises issues of mans’ wanting to preside over nature and ‘foreign’ to him cultures.
